On May 8, SIMUL8’s Brazilian partner Simulate Simulation Technology held the 2014 SIMUL8 user group in Brazil, and SIMUL8 were privileged to be in attendance and hear about some of the great work that is currently happening in Brazil with simulation.
The event “EBUS8 2014” (Brazilian Encounter of SIMUL8 Users) was held at the University of São Paulo and brought people together from a variety of industries to share ideas and learn with other users.
There were several speakers from organizations such as DHL, Mauá School of Engineering, SOMATICA and ILOS and every speaker had a great story to tell about simulation.
DHL forecasted the operation with a less than 2% error margin!
One interesting presentation on the day came from DHL and discussed a proposal for the development of a simulation model for the analysis of its picking operation (one of the busiest in the world) called “New Crystal Ball”. This will be based on a previous model developed in SIMUL8 that forecasted the operation with a less than 2% error margin!
Keep it simple
There were several other great presentations on the day including consulting firms SOMATICA and ILOS who presented several SIMUL8 models for internal and external logistics systems. CEO of Simulate Simulation Technology, Leonardo Chwif also discussed the KISS philosophy (“Keep it Simple”) of modeling, showing that many complex models that are created do not reach their goals.
We were also lucky enough to present and showed two recent case studies where SIMUL8 had been used in a manufacturing environment to improve processes within the food and automotive industries, as well as showing the audience some of the latest features of SIMUL8 2014.
Simulating check-in areas for the Soccer World Cup
Another presentation of note was the final presentation by Mauá School of Engineering who worked on a study for the two main airline companies from Congonhas Airport (located at São Paulo). The study was focused on understanding the adequacy of their check-in areas for the Soccer Qatar World Cup. So, if you are at Congonhas airport during the World Cup and notice a lot of queues, you can be sure that the recommendations of the study weren’t implemented!
Creating a community of users
The user group was a huge success and has helped to create a community of SIMUL8 users in Brazil who can share ideas and learn together. We’re already looking forward to the next event!
