SIMUL8 at MSUG 2013
This year’s Michigan Simulation Users Group (MSUG) Annual Conference achieved a couple of exciting milestones. First, it was the 20th anniversary of the MSUG meeting, and several of the founders of the organization were in attendance and were recognized for their contributions to the Michigan simulation community. In addition to celebrating 20 years as an organization, this year there were more than 70 attendees, which was near record attendance for the event.
This year’s theme for the conference was “Making Simulation Work in your Organization”. In addition to the excellent speakers from Dow Chemical and General Motors, the panel discussion at the end of the day covered some interesting topics, including:
- Balancing the use of internal and external simulation resources within an organization
- Getting managers and stakeholders involved by letting them run model scenarios
- How to educate and work effectively with stakeholders who are new to simulation
This year SIMUL8 was represented by Brian Harrington (formerly with Ford Motor Company, now SIMUL8 Ambassador), Kenneth Doole, SIMUL8’s VP of Sales, and Matthew Hobson-Rohrer, U.S. Business Development. Brian presented some of the highlights from the SIMUL8 2013 release, including the Excel Connections Wizard and new routing disciplines.
We enjoy attending this conference each year, as events like this help strengthen the simulation community. We hope that in coming years, younger simulation engineers and students will attend so they can learn from the experience of this group. Brian Harrington will represent SIMUL8 on the MSUG Annual Conference steering committee for next year, and we welcome your input ideas.
The next major simulation event this year is the Winter Simulation Conference in Washington D.C. Hope to see you there.
Matt, Brian, and Kenneth
